BUTWELL DOING WELL IN RUSSIA. New York, July 27. Word has been received that jockey James Butwell, who met with considerable success in this country for several seasons, is a favorite with race-goers in Russia. Up to the first of the present month Butwell had won fifteen races, including the Derby. Ho met with an accident in the running of the Oaks. A filly fell in front of his mount, which also went down hcavilv. Butwell landed on his head and was knocked out for some minutes. His head, shoulder and side were bruised, but not enough to keep him from the saddle more than a few days. As in other countries in Continental Europe Sunday is the big racing day In Russia. The Emperors Prize and nearly all other Imjiortant races are decided on that day. The races at St. Petersburg attract an enormous attendance, composed of the highest society in the empire.
