GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY SOURCES. Louisville, Ky., July 2S. J. B. Respess has arranged witli his brother Frank to take up his band of yearlings and begin preparing them for their first training during the coming fall. They are the last crop of foals bred at AVoodlawn Farm in Ohio, as Uie owner of Dick Welles transferred his broodmares and stallions to central Kentucky last year and the weanling colts and fillies that he now owns were all bred in the Bluegrass region. So far the Covington turfman has not expressed his intentions with regard to these youngsters. Last fall he sold a majority of ills yearlings at public sale, chiefly because be bad made up bis mind to race none of his horses at the winter meetings. His stable seemingly did not benefit gi fatly by a winters rest and when cold weather Bets In throughout Kentucky this year the Respess string may be found at the Juarez track. At the first meeting at Juarez Mr. Respess raced a string of liorses with fair success. They were in charge of A. L. Kirby, who is now training a stable for B. Wall, of Oklahoma. lie spent considerable of the winter of 1000 and 1910 In Mexico, but other interests kept him closer to home last winter. W. F. Schultes two-year-old bay eojt. Captain Bravo, lias joined trainer R. P. Brooks string at Churchill Downs. The youngster had to be left at Lntonia when trainer Brooks brought Zicnap and King Olympian homo, he being too sick to travel. He is now over the disorder. J; T. Combs will, as usual, send a small string of hcrses to campaign over the fair circuit and will tart the season at Osgood, Ind., and keep up the rounds until the State Fair opens here on September 11. Mr. Combs will not race his three-year-old. Sir Kearney, or his two-year-old. Potts Nevins. at the fair races. These two youngsters are still running out and will not be taken up until next month. The liorses lie has picked for the fair circuit this year are Mulcahey, Splendid and the veteran, Harry Summers. Trainer W. H. Fizer is still held at Latonia on account of having some sick liorses and his string will hardly be able to get to Churchill Downs for a week or more yet.
