Tlie finish of tho liftli race was so close that when the official num. hers were hung up many voiced their disapproval. A considerable number gathered about the judges stand and protested vehemently, but to no avail. ReatrUce Soule, which lias a habit of swerving to the outside in all her races, finished close to the. judges stand and surely would have won iu another stride. Form was at a discount, only one solitary favorite winning, and the public lost heavily. Marked improvement in the running of several outsiders was a feature, the most glaring being that of Madeline Musgrave. Jockey Kirschbaum was taken off Tlie Monk, winner of the fourth race, at a late hour by tU judges, they deeming that J. Mclntyre understood the horses peculiarities better than the scheduled rider. Quite a killing was made 011 the wiu of J. F. Crowley iu the last race by a select few.
