ATTEMPT TO CURTAIL BUTTE MEETING. Butte, Mont., August 5. Endymion IL, winner of the feature race here today, a handicap at one mile and seventy yards, enthused an attendance of 4.000 persons by making one of the most sensational finishes of the meeting. After trailing many lengths in the rear in the early part of the race, he got up to win by the narrowest of margins. St. Holier, a three-year-old in the stable of Hogan and Keene, died this morning. For refusing the judges information within his knowledge relative to an alleged corrupt practice under investigation, owner R. Little was today suspended " from all privileges of the course, and his horses Arasee, Lagoon and Beporter are to be barred from further racing here. They have been ordered otr the grounds. Jockey Shriner was suspended for five days for rough riding in the fifth race. He bore over against Tommy McGee in the stretch. There were rumors to the effect that a committee of business men and the Butte Driving Club, an organization of trotting horsemen, wouhl attempt to stop further running racing here, claiming that a meeting at their track of fifteen days and fifteen days at the course of the Butte Jockey Club would cover the allotment of dates by law. There was no move to bring the matter to an issue today. It. is understood that the question will In all probability be brought to an issue on Tuesday next and will be thrashed out in the courts at a later date. H. I. Wilson, president of the Butte Jockey Club, ridicules the claim of the trotting track pro- moters and says that his club is running strictly within the provisions of the law. He is strong in his assurance that the jockey club meeting will run as scheduled.
