HAMILTON MEETING OPENS BIG CROWD TREATED TO SOME KEEN RACING AT CANADIAN COURSE. Superstition and Bob R. Figure in Stirring Finish in Handicap JFeature of Attractive Card Sal Volatile Equals a Track Record. Hamilton, Out., August 12. Tlic second and final meeting of tin; Hamilton Jockey Club for the season of 1911 opened today under favorable conditions. The attendance was large, speculation was brisk and a majority or the finishes were keenly contested. Knee-goers round the temporary grandstand a comfortable structure and during the running of the races it was well tilled. The track superintendent bad the course in excellent condition and fast time was recorded. Only three of the seven starters finished the course in the steeplechase. Lizzie Flat winning liandilv from Dr. Koch. Jack Dennerlen, which linished third, refused at two of the fences. The Brantford Handicap furnished a stirring contest, the winner turning up in Superstition, which beat Bob H. a head in a driving finish. Superstition and Console raced like a team to the stretch turn, where Hob It. moved up with a rush. Jockey Hell was unable to keep him straight making the tun: for home which cost him the race. In the live and one-half- furlongs dash Sal Volatile showed a line turn of speed, leading all the way and equaling the track record for the distaueo by running it in l:0!i. It was a good days for the Virginians, three of the winners having been bred in Albemarle County, that state. This trio included Lizzie Flat, Pnggtns and Superstition. Wavne O. Joplin returned from Kentucky this morning. The option which Itichard F. Carman held on his rider. T. Koerncr, expired with the Fort Erie meeting. It is understood that Mr. Carman is making an effort to secure the services of the lightweight, Winglield. Sirs. L. A. Livingston, who has been summering at her farm at Cobourg, Out., -was a -visitor at the course this afternoon. She reports that trainer Feakes is rounding her good horse Iovetie into racing tondition. Lovetie has been entered in some of the Kull stakes at Blue Bonnets and Woodbine. W jr. MaeFarlan, a Montreal merchant who purchased , a -oupIo of two-year-olds at the SanTord sale, was a visitor. He will add several more horses to the stable, which, he will campaign next season in charge of Harry Shannon. Charles Patterson of Ornament fame is here. He is now handling the horses of Robert Davies of Toronto. The striii" includes tin- fast two-year-old filly Rose Lawrence. Patterson pronounces the yearlings that ho purchased in Kentucky last week to he :i eraekihg good-looking lot and he has hopes of developing a couple of stake horses from among them. Max Hirsch returned from New York this morning. His mare Taltoo is rounding into racing condition iigain. She was a starter in the lirantford Handicap today, but tired after running prominently. Forty-one layers were in line at Hamilton this afternoon, thirty-seven in the big ring and four lielders. The ltookmakers. in the big ring included K1 Colell. George Zeller, I. Ham. Frank Tyler, Ieter McGrath, Lee Wagner, Al Hanf, J. Spillane, John Fitch, Tom Shaw. Rod MeMahon. "Frisco" Gardner, A Beverly, Frank Henry, John Melllnger, .T. Scully, Ike Carson, Gene Austin, Sam Frank, C. Perm, Ceorge Caffer, Richard Lewis. S. Stephens, John Lewis, II. Regan. William Walsh. Eole Pearsall, Jack Sheehaii. Frank Beers, A. Angerman, Max Marks, Al Klein, J. Coburn, Charles Walters, Steve LHonimedieu, C. IS. Waters and Roy Offutt. Among the New York delegation that arrived were Charles Sunshinu White, Mart Demerest, L. A. Cassldy, L. S. Suell, Leo Swatts. Sam Frank and M. Woirf. James Milton, who ofllciated as starter and steward at some of the half-mile tracks, was an arrival. Uarrv Llttlefield. trainer for .T. E. Seagram, has received a couple of additions to his string in Slmcoe and two two-year-olds. The imported horse Laome-ilon has been turned over to William Garth to be schooled for jumping. Flint Rock, one of the good three-year-olds in the Belmont stable, has gone lame. He pulled up limping after being worked yesterday. Starter Dade suspended jockey T. Rice for the rest of the meeting for disobedience in the second race. He also suspended Forehand three days and lined McCnlley 0 for misbehavior at the post.
