NOTES OF THE TURF. Charles II. Hughes is assisting trainer Frank M. Taylor in handling the Hallenbeck horses. August Belmonts Vie de Luxe, ridden by Guy Garner, won the Prix Acheres at Treuibluy iu France Tuesday. Seven horses ran. Mrs. Thomas Burns, wife of the jockey, was operated on for appendicitis recently in a private hos pital in Brooklyn, and is doing nicely. Jockey Bevan was severely but not dangerously hurt when Giovanni Balerio fell with him at Victoria, B. G., recently. The horse sustained a broken leg and Avas destroyed. A new race track is planned for New Westminster, B. C, while a chain of inland British Columbia tracks, consisting of Kamloops, Vernon, Revelstoke and Craubrook, Is practically complete. The British Columbia circuit promises to become important. William Brenuan, an American horseman who went to England last winter to act as foreman in the establishment of trainer It. L. Dawson, has arranged to fill a like position for trainer A. J. Joyner. Brennans duties as foreman of the Harry Payne . Whitney string will commence January 1. Breunan was a successful Jockey in this country before becoming foreman for Samuel C. Ilildreth. It is said that Mr. Joyner will come to America in the early winter and confer with James Rowe concerning the shipment of nominees to England for the various classics. The Whitney horses, of all ages, are heavily engaged in English stakes.
