MONTREAL RACES RUN IN RAIN. Mud Runners Get Chance at Blue Bonnets and the Layers Have a Profitable Day. Montreal, Quo., September 15. Dull racing was witnessed at Blue Bonnets today. Heavy rains that set in during the early morning made the track deep and a heavy drizzle that fell all afternoon made the course anything but a pleasant place. Despite this a surprisingly large crowd was in attendance and speculation was keen. It was one of the few opportunities on the circuit this season for horses that fancy heavy going. The public were a bit on in their calculations, as only two favorites won. Botli of them were at odds-on in the betting and the layers had a good day. There were two steeplechases on tiio program, one for three-year-olds at one mile and a half, and another over the two-mile course. Andy Chisholm, William Garths promising fencer, won the former In a canter, while old Thistiedale found the soft going just to his liking and scored by a long margin. The Provincial Nursery, one of the fixtures of the fall meetings at Blue Bonnets, and the attraction of tlie program witli local race-goers, brought out a field of three. Two of them were by "Frisco" Gardners old campaingner, Floral King, and one of them. Floral Crown, after being virtually loft at the post, closed a big gap and won by half a dozen lengths. All throe of the starters ran greenly, the favorite. Fred Cowans, bolting to the outer fence entering the homestretch. The latter is a good looker and witli a bit more racing may develop; into a fair youngster. Tlie closest finish of the afternoon came with the running of the first race, which called for two-year-olds. Congressman JanTes. after leaving tlie post to a slow break, closed a big gap and, coming witli a good burst of speed at the end, got up to beat Sadie Shapiro half a length. Jockey Byrne was taken sick after his finish on Aldrian and was forced to pass up his engagement on Springmass in the seventh race. The following have made kuown their intention of shipping from here to Toronto to take part in the Woodbine meeting: A. G. Bhikcley. J. W. Burtt-scliell, Albert Simons, Beverwyck Stable, William Garth. J. W. Flynn, August Belmont, J. J. Hyland, Woodford Clay, W. F. Presgrave, Thomas Clyde, John W. Schorr, E. F. Cooney, Mrs. L. A.
