NOTES OF THE TURF. Latonia at present is almost devoid of horses, there hardly being fifteen at that track. All the stables whieh summered there have either shipped to Lexington or to Churchill Downs. At the Western meeting at Ayr, Scotland, yesterday. H. P. Whitneys bay colt Evening Star, by Hamburg Vespers, won the Craigengillan Plato of 103 sovereigns for two-year-olds at live-eighths, with Fair Beauty second and the Jebha lilly third. Seven ran. Judge Charles F. Price, who accompanied M. J. Winn to Mexico City recently, is impressed with the racing possibilities of the Mexican capital. He is quoted as follows: "Mexico City is charming, it is a pity that the American people know so little of .Mexico. You cannot get from books that which you get from observation. I was surprised and delight ed. That which impressed me most was the cosmopolitan feature. Riding through the country one sees the poorer people, but once you are in the Mexican capital you behold splendor and elegance and then get a true idea of the quality of the Mexican people. The temperature varies only about 10 degrees, ranging between GO and 70. There are great things iu store for Mexico."
