LAUREL RACES CONTINUE ATTRACTIVE. Big Crowd in Attendance Yesterday Saw Jacquelina Win Selling Handicap. Laurel, Md., October 23. As the weather was clear and pleasant and it was Ladies Dav it was only natural that the crowd which journeyed to the Laurel track this afternoon should be a large one. Seven races were run. A novelty contest was declared off because of the condition of the track, whicli was again heavy after the rain of yesterd-jy. The change in the going did not cause many scratches and large fields went to the post. The public had a bad day In endeavoring to locate winners, for Richard Reed was the only successful favorite. The sport was good, notwithstanding the poor condition of the going. There was another race for officers of tho Armv and Navy, at one mile and a half on the Hat. and Lieutenant Rockwell scored with O. K. Kyrat. which was the public choice for the race, made the greater part of the paw, but in the stretch he was caught by O. K., which passed him without much effort and won by eight lengths. Chief interest otherwise centered in the running of the selling handicap at one mile. It was won by Jacquelina and was a rough rare all the way. The. ultimate winner was knocked about in the run to the first turn, but was able to take the lead in the stretch. She was forced to do her best at the finish to dispose of Font. The victory did not bring any reward to the stable as far as the purse was concerned, as; Sam Louis figured that Jacquelina had been, entered below her value and he made owner Anderson pay 1911.sh05 to retain her. Jockey Byrne, who was injured about ten days ago as a result of his fall from Capltan Bravo, returned to the saddle today. He. rode Affable, favorite of the opening dash, but was unfortunate in having her cut off just as the start came aud she never figured in the running. Gordon and Hopkins divided the riding honors, Gordon winning the first two races and Hopkins the last two. Mrs. George W. Langdon, who is one of the few wonfen breeders of race horses, was among those that witnessed the racing today. Beginning tomorrow the meeting will again be run under tho Maryland Stato Fair, with the rules of the Jockey Club governing. The horses of J. S. Tyreo reached Laurel from the Pimlico track today and the horses of William Garth are expected tomorrow. Mr. Garth sent Over Montgomery to take part in the closing race, which was the first time his colors had been seen here. A. B. Dade will send the horses awav for the remainder .of the Laurel meeting- now " that the Pimlico meeting is. over.
