Valkei Sweepaway Carries Colors of James Rowe to Victory. Laurel, Md., October 2S. The largest crowd that has witnessed tho racing over the new track at Laurel turned out this afternoon. The grandstand was filled to overflowing aud those unable to find room in that structure made themselves as comfortable as possible on the lawns. The association provided a program of seven races with the American Juvenile Stakes for two-year-olds as the feature. This race attracted a baud of smart youngsters to the post and incidentally showed that Capt. P. M. Walker has a shifty filly in Isidora, a winner hero a few days-ago. Isidora beat Surfeit a length in todays stake. The latter ran coupled with Molsant as the A. Si-mous entry. In the early running James U. Keenos Cloak showed a surprising burst of speed and took a good lead, rounding thc turn out of the back stretch. After Cloak had gone a good half mile, however, she quit, showing plainly that she Is a non-stuyer, and in the home stretch Isidora. which was close up from the start, took command aud won. Molsant also faltered when the final test came, th 124 pounds thnt she was asked to carry undoubtedly telling. The Schorr entry, Froglegs, might hare won the race had Goldstein been able to keen bliii from swervlug behind the leaders in the final furlong. The fields were well matched and a majority of tiie events furnished stirring contests with small margins separating the first two at the end. Ennls-killen won -the steeplechase by a head from Ross-hampton after a. long and hardidrivc. In: the seventh race heads and noses separated the first three horses with Blackford just lasting to beat tho Schrelber entry. Sager. The colors of James Rowe, so seldom seen on the turf nowadays, were carried to victory in the third race by Sweepaway. The latter has filled out and grown since she was sent to the farm from Plmlico last spring. In todays race she showed splendid courage, overhauling the speedy Marjorie A, which opened a tremendous lead in the first three furlonga and then stalling off determined opposition from Martin W. Littleton and Dr. Duenner in the stretch drive. Form players evened up some of their losses of the week through the success of five favorites. Tho track was fast and as smooth as a billiard table. It was hard in spots and the pounding of the horses hoofs as they ran down the hack stretch could be plainly heard In the grandstand. Barney Sehrcibcr was a visitor to the track today. It is his. first visit to the new course. He came on to arrange for the shipment of some of his horses to Norfolk. He has not as yet decided just whero they will go from there. Steeplechase jockey Tim Donohuc has arranged to go abroad next spring. Ho will take the Jumpers Eddie Dugan and Alfred Noble to England or Franco for Ivan Fox. Donohuc has a. notion that Alfred Xoble might win the grand National in England ami Ivan Fox shares this view. At all events the horses will be sent abroad next spring. Little Ep. which has changed hands several times of late, is back in the stable of his original owner, Samuel Ross, who purchased the colt from 0. J. Odell this morning. P. M.
