FAMOUS BROODMARE DIES IN KENTUCKY. Lexington, Ky.. October 2S. William Lakeland noted thoroughbred mare Quesal. dam of the Futurity winner Electioneer, and other good racers, died a: Thomas B. Gardners Timberland farm near this city last Monday and her hide has been expressed t i Rochester, N. Y.. where it is to be converted Into a rug. Quesal was a bay mare by Ilimyar Queen Ban. a daughter of King Ban and the famous producing mare. War Bed. Quesal was bred by MaJ. 1! G. Thomas iu his DIxiaua Stud and was foaled in 1SS0. She was not raci-d as a two-year-old, hut at three, when she won six races and the succeeding year three races in the colors of it. Iwyer. When her racing days were at an end -Major Thomas bought her back and put her in tb? stud. She had sixteen living foals, was barren iu lSIK! and had a dead foal by imported Victory in 1S9C. Among her get wore the stake winners David IL. Maximo Gomez. Trumpet. Tommy Atkins, Tro-goii, Quorum and Electioneer. She was also the dtim of Dr. HotTman and Gohlqnest. She had the distinction of hnviug four sons to win on the same day. Major Thomas realized 2,530 from the sale of her first nine foals when they were vearling. Two of her sons. David II. and Tommy Atkins. wr sent to Eugland, the former In 1S9G and the latter in 1901. and ho died upon arrival. Shortly before Ms death Major Thf.mas dissolved partnership with rhomus It. Gardner and at that time William Lakeland, lor whom Elect loneer liad won the Futurity bought Quosal. She has since produced him three kihIs. none of which huve started.
