LATONIA WINNERS PAY WELL. Majority of Purses at Kentucky Track Go to Horses That Receive Scant Support. Cincinnati. O.. November 7. The big operators continue to find it difficult to land on the winners at Latonia.. four of their selections again meeting with defeat todav. AVhile the offering in a racing way did not promise much in the way of good sport, still a fairlv large attendance took advantage of the moderate weather tlds afternoon to make the trip to the course. Several of the finishes were close and exciting, while the early running in most of the dashes was spectacular. The betting was only of fair proportions, this being in a. measure due to the continuous drubbing that the public has experienced in the last week. The program was made up live selliug races and a maiden race. Zim and John Grillin II. began the day .auspiciously for the talent by taking the first two purses, but thereafter the long-priced racers came in for their innings. Sam Burlier, winner of the closing-race, was neglected In the betting, and the longest of the afternoons winners. Tom King was another winner that lacked a following, and Discontent, winner of the fifth race, only received attention from his immediate connections, who are said to have profited handsomely by ills success. Magazines success in the fourth race was mostly due to E. Dugans energetic riding efforts. Incidentally, it is worthy of mention that this rider is storing up a good deal of trouble for himself, if reports of some of the other riders, here are to be believed, it being charged that he is resorting continuously to the old trick of "leg locking" some of the younger riders and. also, of kicking their feet out of the stirrups. No complaint Uris yet reached the officials, apparently, but ,lt is safe to prediel that if lie is caught at the trick, he will be sharply disciplined. Jockey E. Martin indulged in some rough riding in the third race and the judges promptly suspended him for the remainder of the meeting, Jockey T. Koerner also came under the hail and will not again be seen iu the saddle during lite remainder of the racing here. He incurred starter Cassidys displeasure for insubordination at the post. Dr. Talbot, the well-known veterinarian, met with a painful accident today, while uppiylng the firing irons to Markie M. The horse kicked him in the face, injuring severely his nose .and leaving the imprint of ids hoof ou the veterinarians face. The three-horse combination, consisting of Magazine, Discontent and Sam Barber, paid its backers sx for . . ? Failure to thoroughly establish Inclements identi flriltimr caused the judges .to order his withdrawal after betting had been in progress, on thc-fourth race for some time. All money bet on Inclement was refunded. Judge Dillon was absent from the Judges stand during the afternoon on account of the active part he has to take in the; election. Mr. Dillon is clerk of Kenton county, and is one of the countys most .popular and efficient office holders. Secretary Ed-.ward Maginn officiated .as associate judge in Mr. Dillons absence. The Jamestown track management sent notice to horsemen here of a scarcity of racers at the Vir-giriia track and announced .that they could take care of fifty or one hundred horses from here with comfort at their track. Several carloads probably will be skipped there at the close Of this meeting. W. W. Lyles, who is looking after the Havana tracks interest here, will tomorrow, supply full Information to owners concerning, shipping rates and other details connected with- the sOecinl train that is scheduled to leave here, next Tuesday for New Orleans enroute to Havana. - J.
