MUD RUNNERS SCORE AT MARLBORO. Washington, D. C, November S. While the track at Marlboro bad dried out considerably over night, it remained heavy several feet from the rail and the rest of tlie course was in slow condition, so that the mud runners were again conspicuous. The sport was the best of the meeting, as every race was well contested and there were many close finishes. W. B. Carson won his first race with Republican today. The colt just did manage to get up in time to nose out Fcramorz and Troxler came near tossing the purse away by taking things too easy in the last sixteenth. The Steeplechase Handicap was a good race all the way and Gun Cotton, the favorite, won the race easily. There were several mishaps in the race. Helen B. ran out of the course, 0. K. refused, and The Speaker lost his rider. Troxler rode two winners, Joe Rose and Republican. Clement, who had the mount on Lesbos, in the third race, was suspended for two .days by the judges for rough riding. The backers of favorites again fared badly, as Republican and Gun Cotton were the only successful choices.
