KOERNER RIDING WELL CRACK JOCKEYS SKILL CUTS NO LITTLE FIGURE IN LATONIA RESULTS. Victories of Leamencc and Edda in Principal Races of Card at Kentucky Track Due Largely to His Superiority in Saddle. Cincinnati, O., November 9. Interesting sport developed from todays Latonia card and in some instances the winners remained in doubt until the final stride. The handicap at one mile and seventy yards and the dash following at one mile were both keenly contested races, with the leading pair measuring strides almost on even terms for nearly the entire stretch drive. Jockey T. Kocrncr distinguished himself in each of these instances by the energetic bundling of his mounts, which accounted for their successes. Disagreeable weather continues and the track is still in bad condition. It is improving, however, and if no more rain falls, it may be fast for the miming of the-Latonia Endurance Stakes on -Saturday. Considering the unpropitious conditions, a surprisingly large crowd witnessed the racing. Speculation also was of goodly -proportions. The public again experienced a series of losses, beginning with the opener when Merry Beau won from Joe Deibold and other fairly useful colts. Detects success in the second, for which Mud Sill and Silver Brush were their choices, did not improve matters, but they did lind solace in the victories of Free Lance and John Furlong, both of which were pronounced favorites. The victory of John Furlong proved costly to his owner, who was mulcted to the extent of 05. the amount he was bid up over an entered price of 00. After the finish of the first race, L. V. Bellow, the carded trainer of Bill Todd, claimed Joe Deibold for . G. II. "Whitney, the colts owner, protested the claim on the ground that Mr. Bellew is not the owner of Bill Todd. Mr. Bellew claims to own a half interest in Bill Todd, and in consequence, xnder the rules, lie -would have a right to make the claim. Judge Price required, of Mr. Bellew that he tile an affidavit that he is part owner of Bill Todd. When this is done he will be given possession Joe" Deibold. ryl" Star Charter was worked a mile and a half this afternoon for his engagement in the Latonia Endurance Stakes and went the distance handily in 2:42. High Range, another expected starter in the race, was sent an easy mile in 1:41. W. II. Karrick will ship Bouncing Lass and Rapacious to Norfolk, where they will be campaigned "by I. S. P. Randolph for the remainder of the racing term there. The other horses in the care of trainer Karrick will go into winter quarters at Aiken. S. C., and later engage in the racing at Charleston. "With the Karrick consignment for Aiken, will go the twenty-six head owned by It. F. Carmau. They will le rested until the opening of the Charleston racing. Jockev Eddip Dugan today closed a contract with Baron itothschild to ride in Germany. Dugan will leave for Berlin tomorrow. The two-horse combination of Merry Beau and Detect paid 31. G5 for . The three-horse combination, composed of Leamence, Edda and John Furlong paid 2.90. Francis J. Pons received word today that the accidental shooting of his son Donald, at Jacksonville last night, was not attended with the serious results first thought. Unless complications ensue, the young man will again be about in a short time. Tho bullet entered the young mans body three Inches below the heart. Mr. Pons at first expected to go home, but reassuring messages luring the day intluenced him to remain hero. He received a communication during the afternoon from W. F. Schulte. at Charleston, announcing that building material for the new track was arriving in large quantities and that instead of 300 stalls being available for horsemen by December 1, at least 000 will lie ready for occupancy. Walter Grater will ship all his horses to Lexington at the close of racing here and rest them until January 1, when be will transfer about twelve head to Charleston, S. C. Some of the horses owned by William Gerst and George H. Holle will be shipped to Havana in charge of trainer George Ham to be raced In the Cuban capital. Secretary Ed Jasper, who is here in the interest of the Juarez stakes, announced today that he had received a splendid list from tho local horsemen and that all the events have filled remarkably well. Capt. James Jacobs, who is in charge of tho track here, has been engaged for similar duty at the Sollce Uarcz track and will leave for Juarez next week. John W.
