MERRY BHAU began slowly, but moved up steadily and drew away in the stretch to win as his rider pleased. JOE DEIBOLD seemed to stumble several times in the early running, but came fast Jn the stretch and took second place in the last stride. VILEY showed the most early speed and made the pace to the stretch, but tired near the end. GEORGE OXNARD was knocked back at the start and closed a big gap. TOURIST and BONANZA showed speed, but tired in the last furlong. Outside of the winner there was a remarkable finish between seven. Scratched 99152 Con Curran, 103. DETECT, running well in the stiff going, was prominent from the start and, drawing away in the stretch, won in a canter. BEACH SAND had no mishaps, set the early pace and was well up throughout. MUD SILL began slowly and, closing a gap, came fast in the stretch under hard urging. SANCHO PANZA ran well to the stretch and tired near the end. The latter showed the most speed and set a fast pace for the going, but tired under his weight near the nd. FONT retired after going a good three-quarters. TOM BIGBEE ran as if sulking.
