PROPOSE RACING REVIVAL IN MISSOURI. St. Louis, Mo., November 9. Joseph A. Murphy is quietly at work, on a plan for the revival of racing on a substantial basis in Missouri. He has interested Komc of the solid citizens of St. Louis In the project and satisfactory progress is being made. The Universal Exposition Company has been duly organized with Mr. Murphy as general manager and is building a speedway for automobile contests and a track for harness and running races on tho St. Charles Rock road. The idea of an open-air horse show and race meeting in the spring has been received with enthusiasm by all grades of horsemen at the Horse Show, where Mr. Murphy has been acting as one of the judges. Following an automobile race meeting, immediately after tho meeting at Indianapolis on Decoration Day, plans will be made for a week or ten days of combined horse show and race meeting that will include practically every grade of horse. The Idea is receiving an enthusiastic endorsement from the Horse Show Association itself. President G. Lacy Crawford of the Horso Show Association is also a director of the Universal Exposition Company. Judge Murphy declares that it will be an easy matter to induce the owners of Important racing stables to ship" here for the proposed revival of racing. There is a false impression among a great class of people as to the present racing laws in the State of Missouri. There is nothing iu the state law to prohibit racing or betting on racing except under certain notorious forms that have been -distasteful to the public. When tho proper times comes the horsemen throughout the state will ask the county and state authorities to define exactly what the law permits nnd what it prohibits, and everybody will be compelled by the management to hew strictly to the line. Whatever money is derived from the automobile racing and the horse show and race meeting will be tised to finance a monster fair and cattle exhibit In the fall. It is hoped that the fall carnival can be made to extend practically through the month of September, commencing about Labor Day. the events to include in addition to the live stock exhibit, a poultry show, automobile and horse racing, athletics of all kinds, aviation and novelty races of every description.
