NORFOLK RACING IS KEEN CONDITIONS IDEAL FOR SPORT AND BEST CROWD OF MEETING TURNS OUT. Racors from Stable of J. W. Flynn Play Important Part in Results Halter Men Show Activity Track in Better Shape. Norfolk, Va.f November 11. J. W. Flynn, who Is racing a Email hut select stable here, Is playing an important part in the meeting of the Jamestown Jockey Club this fall. Mr. Flynn lias won six purses to date, two of which he took today with The Golden liutterlly and Montcalm. The latters victory came with the running of the Merchants Selling Stakes, a sprint affair at six and a half furlongs in whicli he heat the heavily backed favorite, Ben Loyal, in easy fashion. It was the second time during the meeting that Mr. Flynn lias sent two winners to the post. Minnie Bright and Capsize having won for him on Thursday last. The weather conditions could hardly have been improved upon for racing this afternoon. Wraps were u burden rather than a comfort and the bright warm sunshine made outdoor sport exceedingly attractive. The crowd that turned out was by far the largest of the meeting and some keen sport was witnessed. Harney Schreiber won a purse witli his Bannock-burn two-year-old, James Dockcry, which made a runaway affair of the lirst race. Bey and F.agle Bird had to be hard ridden to win their races by small margins. The latter took the llfth race, which was a selling affair, and after her victory she changed hands. J. W. Burttsehell, whose Rose Queen iiuished second, securing her for ,200. This was an advance of 00 over her entered price. A few days ago Mr. Burttsehell took Richard Reed from H. ;. Bedwell out of a selling race and the latter retaliated today by claiming Rose Queen. Mr. Bedwell paid ,300 for the latter and the chances are that it was a case of both buyer and seller lieing satisfied. Wiiiie on her way to the post in the first race the liliy Wildweed got the better of jockey McCahey and ran away a mile. This ruined whatever-chance she might have had. Eton Blue, also a starter iu thin race, was coughing in the paddock before going ft the post and this in a measure may have been responsible for her poor showing. William Walker purchased of William Gartli the two-year-old Onrico and the latter ran in the name and colors of her new owner this afternoon. Ivan Foxs stable of jumpers, including Duflicld, arrived from Marlboro this morning. Several other owners now racing at that track have asked for stable room. On Monday the following are due to arrive from T.atonia with their horses: J. Stockier, I. .1. Miles, .1. V. Strode, W. C. Capps. J. i. Lyman and John Sheridan. Another carload will be shipped from Latonia early next week. Daingerlleld, Belle Nelson, Wondawhy and Belle Hampton, four winuers under the white, green sash and cap of Tnomas Fortune Ryan, will winter at the home quarters in Virginia, where there are some promising yearlings. W. AI. Carter, who has handled the string successfully this season, will prepare the horses for their 1912 engagements. Henry W. Warner, whose Nosegay and Faultless have raced with distinction at eastern limit meetings, will winter on Long Island. It is Mr. Warners intention to add to his stable in the near future and train his horses for spring racing at the course of the Westchester Racing Association.
