NOTES OF THE TURF. The Calgary Jockey Club is to be organized to strengthen racing authority and interest in the sport in the district of which Calgary is the metropolis. Mrs. Helen Hay Whitneys Web Carter defeated John S. Turtons Tyosa by a half length over a three-mile steeplechase course at Belmont Park Terminal Monday. Charles L. Appleton rode Web Carter and Henry Lawrence had the mount on Tyosa. The thoroughbred horse. Be Thankful, ridden by Lieut. Allen Case, of the Queens Own Rifles. Toronto, won the broad jump competition engaged in by army officers representing the United States, England, Ireland, Canada and Belgium in connection with the Horse Show at Now York Tuesday night.
