NOTES OF THE TURF. Seventy applications were received by the Victoria Racing Club, Australia, in reply to an advertisement for a paid steward. George McSweeney has sold Robert Cooper, and the brother to Montgomery has gone south from Toronto for tho winter racing. William Waldorf Astors two-year-old Lancastrian ran second for the Kineton Plate at the Warwick meeting, in England, Tuesday. Thomas Hitchcock. Jr.s Huetamo won the Prix Lady Killer, a hurdle handicap of ,015 for three-year-olds at Auteuil, in France, yesterday. J. E. Wideners Avenue ran third in the Prix Saida at the Auteuil course, in France, Tuesday, with OLeary in the saddle. There were three horses in the race. Louis WInans Adam Bede does not wear well with English critics, and one of them wrote, after the son of Adam won a moderate race at Liverpool: "It is evident that Adam Bede has been considerably overrated, and he seems to have no pretensions to win in good company." Charles Kohler, who recently purchased Fitz Herbert, Novelty, Zeus and other horses from S. C. Hildreth, says he has decided not to ship them to England on December 2. He is anxiously awaiting the return to America of Mr. Hildreth and jockey Shilling, who are on their way home. Mr. Kohler is unable to say why Mr. Hildreth did not remain longer on the other side.
