REGRET CURTAILMENT OF SPORT. Residents of Mexican Capital Sorry Racing Program Could Not Be Carried Out as Planned. Mexico City, Mex., November IS. A large crdwd was in attendance for the tenth day of the racing at the Condesa Course and the books did a lively business. The weather was perfect and the track fast. The fourth race proved most interesting and the finish was so close and exciting as to bring the grandstand occupauts to their feet with a ringing cheer for the magnificent spurt of speed displayed by W. G. Yankes great filly, Round the World. Harrigan and Billy were off in front of the filly at the rise of the barrier, and Harrigan outran the Yanke entry to the head of the stretch. Then Round the World moved up on even terms with the leader and won in a spirited drive with Harrigan by a head. The struggle down the stretch was a sight to stir the pulses, and the Mexicans in attendance were wildly enthusiastic. A surprise occurred in the first race, when Sain-tasa, at odds of ten to one, outran her company easily and scored by two and a half lengths. Mc-Alau, at four to one, captured the second race, Skll-lute being the favorite at even money. Up to this point the day was decidedly against the favorites. Sr. De la Arenas Marques dc San Roman was first in the third race for Mexican-foaled horses, all of the starters being Derby contenders with the exception of Allison. Flying Footsteps won by a good margin from Angelus, Rompie and San Bernito, the Gladstone filly securing the lead at the start and maintaining it to the end. The sixth race was easy for Frog, which went to the post favorite at one to two, this race bringing the second victory of the day for the Yanke string. Much disappointment Is manifested here because it was found necessary to bring the meeting to a close earlier than was at first intended, but the local talent are consoling themselves with the thought that the horses from the United States will return here for a spring meeting of longer duration than the present one. Many persons prominent in social, government and business circles were present today and the grounds presented a most animated appearance. After the conclusion of the races Mrs. Guillcrmo de Landa y Escandon, wife of the former governor of the Federal District, gave a tea at the clubhouse on the grounds to her friends, among whom are numbered several of the visiting- Americans who came to Mexico to witness the races. J. C. Ferriss has purchased from Press West the three-year-old iilly Miss Kom and the colt Spalding. Mr. Ferriss will race these two animals at the mcetiug in Juarez. The terms of the sale were private. Alexandre de la Arena has sold to Arturo Senano the four-year-old bay colt Candlcberry, by Ben Brush Candle, by Candlemas for ,000 gold. Arturo Senano owns a ranch near Jalisco and he bought Candlcberry for a stallion in his select breeding stud. Candlcberry ran second to Sweep In the Futurity in 1009. The first and second payments of 0 silver each for the 1912 Mexican Derby have just been made. The first payment of 0 silver for the. 1913 Mexican Derby is to be made December 15 this year, and, the second payment December 12. 1912. The third payment in the 1912 and 1913 Derbys must be made on the first day of the week previous to the running of the race.
