RECIPROCITY IN BREEDING FAVORS. An arrangement made a few years ago by the princiial breeders of thoroughbreds in France has worked so satisfactorily that it is continued each year. Each owner of a thoroughbred stallion gives a free service to his colleagues, the right of choice being determined by a form of ballot. The list of stallions "pooled" for next season in this manner has just been published, and to equalize matters, horses of second and third class will serve two, three or even four mares against the single service of a llrst-class stallion. For instance. M. Edmond Diane offers one nomination to Ajax. while the Count do Chenelette gives two to Gingal, if. A. Wallet gives three to Holbein and M. F. do Saint-Jayme gives four to Agadir, a son of Flying Fox. Crown Equerry and the American stallion Ellsmere are also 1 on the four-marc mark, whereas the "top-sawyers" called upon for one service only are. in addition to Ajax, Datt, Den, Drio, Briscoeur, Cheri. Chulo, De-launav, Doricles, Exema, Go-to-Ded, Jacob, Kilglass, LAiglon, Lorlot, Madcap, Magellan. Or du Rhin, Ob, St. Just, Strozzi, Winkfields Pride and Yankee. Altogether there will be one hundred nominations 1 to ltallot for and every leading breeder is in the svndicate, so that each will obtain at least one free service for a selected mare. The system certainly seems an economical one and it opens up many possibilities.
