BOURBON BEAU BREAKS A LEG Louisville Ky April 22 Bourbon Beau th fouryearold son of Star Shoot Kentucky Belle II in the stable of T Collins a New York restaurant man suffered a broken leg while working at Churchill morningHe Downs Sunday morning He was one of the best fouryearolds in America and made a new Mexican record of 137 for a mile at Juarez last winter Tiie accident happened in a peculiar manner The colt was consumed with a de ¬ sire to run and when his rider attempted to hold him back one of Bourbon Beaus hind feet struck the right foreleg breaking the larger bone An effort is being made to save him for the stud He was entered in all the big stakes in Kentucky this spring His racing recprd Is as follows Bourbon Beau cb c 1908 by Star Shoot Ken ¬ tucky Belle n Year Age Sts 1st 2d 3d Unp Won 1912 4 3 2 0 1 0 CM 1911 8 17 5 3 2 7 2715 1910 2 11 0 1 1 9 120 Totals 3 31 7 4 4 1C 3400 3400After After a thorough examination by tbe best veteri ¬ narians obtainable it was decided tonight that Bourbon Beau might bo saved for the stud Trainer Tom Carroll received word from the horses owner to do all in his power to save the horse for stallion purposes The son of Star Shoot was able to stand for a few minutes today and uible at his hay but later he laid down and in this way spent the rest of the day Johnny Con way who was on the horse when the accident occurred said that he was not going faster than a twominute gait He can account for the mishap only on the theory that the horse struck himself with his left foot and the supposition is that in this way he severed the ten ¬ don The veterinarians were not sure this morning that he had actually broken the bone of tho leg They rather thought it was a piece of the tendon that was protruding They all agreed however
