GOOD MEETING IN PROSPECT AT PIMLICO Baltimore Md April 22 Old Pimlico is to launch its spring race meeting April 27 and it is to continue until May 14 It will be the first meet ¬ ing conducted under the sanction of the recently appointed Racing Commission for Baltimore County This commission did not meet for organization until April 11 and at that same meeting the spring dates of the Maryland Jockey Club were approved while permission was granted for a fall meeting to ex ¬ tend from October 30 to November 9 9Applications Applications that have already been received for stabling for the coming meeting give promise of its being a thoroughly successful one The club has found it necessary to lease stalls outside the track for a radius of a mile and so far as horses arc con ¬ cerned the sport should be up to the best standards of the old course courseOne One of the most recent arrivals at the course from Canada was the stable of William Walker He brought with him among others such wellknown racers as Stanley Fay Apologize Onrico Servlcenco Lash and Scarlet Pimpernel PimpernelThe The majority of those that wintered at the old Benning course at Washington are now here The largest string was that trained by William Garth At the close of the Norfolk meeting the rest of the horses that Mr Garth will handle this season will be shipped here and they will then total fortyeight head the largest number ever trained at one time over this course in the history of the club clubThe The horses of Thomas F Ryan are here Thty Include eleven twoyearolds and Belle Nelson Belle Hampton Daingerfield and the crack of the Ken ¬ tucky WondawhyAnother circuit last spring Wondawhy Another lot that is attracting attention are thoe trained by Gwyn Toinpklns that consist of five flat runners and the jumpers Bello The Prophet Bigot Sam Ball and His Reverence ReverenceA A few of the largest strings are those of R J Walden which includes the horses owned by D II Morris and J E Davis W F Presgrave witu twentyone the majority of which are owned by Thomas Clyde and Amos Turney twenty one head iii MartinAn charge of William Martin An important shipment from New York will ar ¬ rive the first part of next week and will include the horses of R T Wilson in charge of T J Healey totaling twenty head and those that will sport the colors of August Belmont which are now handled by Lotus Fuestal to the number of eighteen According eighteenAccording to authoritative reports this may be the last racing at Pimlico in connection with which professional layers of odds will be permitted to operate The idea of the parlniutitel system of speculation is being agitated among the stockhold ¬ ers and management and It Is not at all improbable that before the fall meeting is called October 20 a full line of mutuel machinery will be Installed at the old course After Pimlico closes there will be a tendays meeting at Electric Park and this probably will bo followed by a tenday session at Marlboro with the threedays meeting of the Maryland United Hunts Intervening at Pimlico These are two half mile tracks and purses averaging 250 each will be offered These arrangements will provide some racing for the poorer class of horsemen many of whom will remain in Maryland during the month of May and early in June in preference to going to the halfmile courses of Canada
