ENTRIES RECEIVED FOR MONTREAL STAKES STAKESMontreal Montreal Que April 22 Although it is a week before the closing of the stakes to bo decided during the spring meeting of the Montreal Jockey Club from Saturdav June 1 to Saturday Juno S inclu ¬ sive some entries have already been received The spring to Capt E B Cassatt one of Americas foremost breeders He has been most liberal with entries for all the open events to be raced for ou the flat and particularly in tho Kindergarten Stakes which is an event for twoyearolds Applications twoyearoldsApplications for stabling accommodations continue to come in Gwyn R Tompkins will bring a string of a dozen jumpers to Blue Bonnets Mike Daley will bring four of his own horses to be raced ou the flat as well as six steeplechasers which are the property of A Henry Higginson who races under the nom do course of Mr Chctlaud James ChctlaudJames F Johnson owner of the Quincy Stable in asking for stables for eight horses stated that jockey Schuttiuger will accompany the string Trainer Matt Feakes of the string owned by Mrs L A Livingston asks for stabling for twenty horses horsesTrainer Trainer T J Healcy lias asked for stabling for the horses owned by R T Wilson and signifies his intention of making a liberal number of stake en ¬ tries Norman Macfarlane who is a local owner now racing horses at Norfolk has asked for stabling for his own horses as well as those under the care of Harry Shannon ShannonThere There are now over GOO stalls at Blue Bonnets which will afford ample accommodations for all of the horses that will be shipped to Montreal for the meeting The stables were all overhauled last fall and are in good repair They were walled up on the inside which will be greatly appreciated by owners and trainers The work of putting the plant in good condition will bo commenced within a couple of weeks It will receive the usual spring overhauling and will be ready for the reception of horses at the conclusion of the Norfolk and Baltimore meetings Applications for stabling may be made to the office of the Montreal Jockey Club at 11 St Sacrenicnt street Montreal MontrealThe The work of compiling the program books will closely follow the closing of the stakes so as to have them in the hands of the horsemen during the Pimlieo meeting There will be no purse of less than 500 this spring which is an increase as com ¬ pared with lust season Besides there will be numerous valuable handicaps and five stakes will be run during the meeting Three of the four open stakes are to be run on the flat Tho others are the Prince of Wales Steeplechase and the Connaught Cup The latter is for Canadianowned horses
