Baltimore Md April 27 Pimlico came into its oldtime ylory again this afternoon It was really the opening of the eastern racing season and a bril ¬ liant gathering assembled to witness the sport In the grandstand and boxes were people prominent in ovcry walk of life Society was well represented in tho clubhouse Among the throng were Capt E JJ Cassatt It T Wilson August Belmout Thomas Hitchcock Jr Algernon Daiugerfield Samuel Itoss W I Frazer of Toronto Captain Sowenby attache of the English embassy at Washington Thomas Fortune Uyaii G W Stiinsou Ital Parr J E Davis Frederick Johnson Capt W F Presgrave Thomas Clyde W S Diffenderffcr W P Rlggs W M Mauley Congressman OIlie James Congress ¬ man William Hughes of New Jersey postmaster of thiw house of representatives Siunott clerk of the house Triihble and many other men prominent in national affairs affairsSuperintendent Superintendent Brennaii had the course in splen ¬ did condition and despite showers that fell last night and this morning the track was fast Weath ¬ er conditions were against the si ort as the skies did not clear until after the running of the fifth race raceThe The program was made up of seven races the features of which were the Inaugural Steeplechase over the twomile course and the Country Club Purse a dash of one mile and forty yards Two twoyearold races were also carded and were won liv juveniles that were making their first appear ¬ ance In public The first of the twoyearold races went to Thomas Fortune Ryans Silver Moon while William Garth furnished the winner of the other in Ital Parrs Lace a filly by Fatherless Network Lace was the dockers tip for the race and some wore enthusiastic enough to predict that she would make a show of Robert Davies good colt Liberty Hall Lace made good by winning but her victory was In a measure due to good racing luck Liberty Hail Yriet with much interference during the run ¬ ning being pinned against the inner fence through the homestretch The colt was coming strong and with a clear passage he probably would have beaten Lace LaceSilver Silver Moon won her race like a1 really good filly She had an outside post position and was forced to work her way around to get to the front She showed a keen turn of speed and the further they went the bigger the gap she opened Her vic ¬ tory was clean cut and at the end she had a threc KlitfthK advantage Silver Moon ran her half in onefifth of a second faster than Lace She is the first of the get of Ellisdale a son of Watercress to o to the post and was bred by her owner Thomas Fortune Kyaii at his farm in Virginia She is an eligible for the Clabaugh Memorial one of the big events of the meeting for twoyearolds Trainer Carter rates her as a much better filly than Wonda whv was last season which means that she comes pretty near being a firstclass racer racerHigh High Hat with a record of three straight vic ¬ tories at Jamestown was made favorite in the Inaugural Steeplechase and he made good
