PARIMUTUELS MADE HIT Cincinnati O August 5 Eugene Elrod and the members of the parimutuel crew which went to North Randall to operate the machines during the trotting meeting recently closed there have ar ¬ rived home The Installation of the machines was in the nature of an experiment and they made so good a showing that it is expected they will sup plant tho books for somo of tho Grand Circuit meet ¬ ings next year Only two straight machines were ixit on at North Randall but the operators had all they could do to handle the money It took the trotting horse followers about a day to realize that the machines paid better returns than tho books according to Mr Elrod and then they were well patronized In nearly every instance the machines paid better prices than the books Mr Elrod reports aqd tho bookmakers were lengthening their prices because 0 the opposition In one race a heat win nor paid 22 to 1 in the mutuels and the best the bootmakers laid was 8 to 1 Many times when tho books laid 1 to 10 on sure things the machines paid as good as 1 to 4 and sometimes better The North Randall people were immensely pleased with jheui they told Mr Elfoil
