NO LACK OF HORSES FOR LEXINGTON Secretary Shelley Arrives at Blue Grass Capital and Begins Preparations for Meeting Lexington Ky August 13 Racing Secretary William II Shelley of the Kentucky Association came over from his home at Louisville yesterday noon opened his olhco In the paddock enclosure at the track and is on the job for the fall meeting of thirteen days that will open Saturday August 31 and which he predicts will be as good as the best ever held here in the autumn notwithstanding the fuct that the program will carry no early closing races racesThe The program for each day Is to be made up en ¬ tirely of overnight purses and handicaps but it will be made with a knowledge of the horses that are to be here for the meeting and it is to be expected that wellbalanced fields and interesting contests will result Secretary Sheik was at work on tho conditions of the races for the llrst seven days of the meeting during his stay in Louisville and when he arrived he had the copy ready for the printer The book will be out about Saturday next Nearly nextNearly everybody now having horses at Louis ¬ ville will bring all or a part of their stables here said Secretary Shelley For instance Pete Coyne who is training George J Longs big string told me lie would bring about ten head to Lexington and it is my understanding that the Latonia Derby winner Free Lance a candidate for the Kentucky Endurance Stakes of four miles to be run at Churchill Downs October 7 will be among the number It is desired so I understand that he have the advantage of as much racing as possible before he goes the long route for the big stakes and the gold cup George Ham will bring nine of the William Gerst horses and T P Hayes will bring half of his string of sixteen Shelby West is com ¬ ing with eight of L P Doerhoefers stable Unless lie should sell them out before the meeting opens Charles C Van Meter will come here with his five twoyearolds S K Hughes has made application for stable room for ten of Thomas Fortune Ryans racers George Odom will be here with live or six if l e decides that they are in condition to race by tlie time our meeting opens Ixjuis Tauber with three Dan Lehan with four of his own and a coilpU of W F Schultes Herman Brandt Ed Rubol anil Theo Abailie with four each can also be put down as certain to come from the Falls City The Carman horses are at Douglas Park and I presume some of them will race here However 1 have not seen Mr Carman and cannot say for certain certainFrom From other points we have received applica ¬ tions for stalls from Gallaher Bros E R Bradley N 1J Davis and John Hoffman and I understand there is some mail here containing applications that I have not seen I am quite sure there will be no scarcity of horses here hereSecretary Secretary Shelley said he had already placed his badge orders and that pretty much all of the de ¬ tail of the preliminaries had been attended to even to arrangements for the bill lasting and ad ¬ vertising which will be done as soon as the paper of the Blue Grass fair is off the stands which will be this week weekEugene Eugene El rod has placed the order for the tickets to be used in the parinvutuels and he will he here with his machines and crew about four days lRfore the meeting opens opensMeanwhile Meanwhile the trainers of the horses quartered here about 170 of them now arc sending thii charges along a bit and before the week ends the gallops will it is expected have become quite in tensting
