DETAILS OF LATONIA IMPROVEMENTS IMPROVEMENTSConcerning Concerning the Improvements in progress at La tonia the Cincinnati Enquirer says saysLatoilia Latoilia will be a revelation to tlie racegoers in tills vicinity General Manager HachmelHter has spent many thousands of dollars in fixing up the old plant and it is in better condition right now than it has been for more than a score of years Lack of room is the only tiling which prevents Latonht from becoming the most beautiful course in America The new chute which is being erected at the slx fnrlong post the rearrangement of the betting ring many improvements in the grandstand and the erec ¬ tion of new judges and timers stands are some of the things that will greet the eye of the racegoer as soon as he steps into the inclosiire The new chute at the sixfurlong pole will overcome a handi ¬ cap inflicted on slowbreaking horses Heretofore when a slowbreaker drew the inside position he hud to go around the entire field when he got ready to run for the start was upon a turn and lie was im ¬ mediately cut off All this will be done away with and the horses will have a straightaway run of i iiuarter of a mile thus giving the slow breaker a chance to keep on even terms until he strikes Ids stride strideThe The new judges stand will be a doubledecked affair square in shape and will be inclosed y plate glass The lower floor which will be about three feet above the level of the track will be for weighingin quarters and here the placing judges will be stationed In the upper deck it is quite probable that three stewards will judge and watch the rucs Manager Haehmeister has not decided on tliis point A newtimers stand will be erected It will be much smaller than the present one and much lower thus not obstructing the view of grand ¬ stand patrons as does the present one oneAll All the betting Iwoths twentyeight in number have been placed on the north side of the betting ring The combination booth has been taken out of the space between the grandstand and the betting sired and in this place will l c betting booths Like ¬ wise tlie fruit and candy stands will have to seek other places The bar in the betting ring has been abandoned which will compel the thirsty ones to walk under the grandstand to allay their thirst Tlie betting booths will run from the east end of the grandstand up against the present ollice In the rear of tlie booths will be a passageway doing away with the necessity of carrying money and tickets through the ring On the lawn alongside tlie pad ¬ dock fence ten cashiers booths will be erected mak ¬ ing twentyseven in all Of course all of these will not be needed on ordinary days but they will come in handy on Derby Day and Saturdays SaturdaysNew New steps and approaches to the grandstand have been constructed all being put in on concrete foundations A new promenade and railing has also been installed The steps leading from the grand ¬ stand to the clubhouse lawn have been done away with The track at tlie present time i as good 1 it was last year The new soil put on last summer has worked well into the clay and better time shouldtie made this year than ever before A fea ¬ ture of the improvements at Latonia whirl will not lie noted by the piddle but for which the turfmen are thankful Is tlie building of roadways in and around the stables Crushed rock has been put in there and rolled and instead of quagmires when it rains the horsemen will have a dry place lo walk their charges The improvements at the plant while not costing a fortune are nevertheless timely and in keeping with the liberal policy adopted and ad ¬ hered to by the present management
