CHURCHILL DOWNS READY NEW LOUISVILLE JOCKEY CLUBS COUESE IN TINE ORDER FOR TOMORROWS OPENING. 4 Keen Interest Manifested in Kentucky Endurance Stakes, Which Will Have Its Third Run- 1 nine Gossip from Kentucky Sources. il Louisville, Ky.. October i. Thu local racing scene now shifts to Churchill Downs, where on Wednesday I the ten-days fall meeting of the New Louisville I Jockey Club will begin. The opening day feature will lie the third running M of the Kentucky Endurance Slakes, four miles, witn an estimated value of 5,100. Of this amount. 0.0J0 is added by the New Louisville Jockey t Club, ngainst ,500 last season and ,000 in 1011. I ihe year of its inaugural running. As in the two ; previous seasons the Kentucky State Racing Com mission donates to the winuer of the event a ,000 gold villi, which is this year fashioned out of twenty- z carat gold and is regarded as the most ornate trophy to far presented by the commission. The auguard of the racing enthusiasts who are coming especially to witness the running of the Endurance Stakes, put in an appearance today. t Taking the newcomers as an indication, there will , lie a vast throng on h:ind to see the race, for every train is bringing plentiful additions. Everything is in thorough readiness for the opening and Churchll Downs never apjiearod to better advantage. The stables, which have undergone extensive repairs since . the spring meeting, are all occupied and 700 horses ; will be available for the racing. The Endurance Stakes is the absorbing topic among horsemen. From all indications there will he live horses that will j contest for the rich prize, including Flora Fina, , 11! pounds; Sain Jackson, 110; Beautiful, 110; lrlnce Eugene, 10S and 1andorina, 105. On Saturday Flora , Fina and Beautiful raced two miles in the Louisville Cup at Douglas Park, while Sam Jackson was breezed a mile and u half the same day and is regarded by his owner and trainer as ready to till his engagement on Wednesday. Absconder came out . of the Louisville Cup race in rather bad condition. This is not due wholly to his fall in that race, but it appears that he struck his left hip against the 1 fence as he went down and it is considerably swol- ! II. F. Itrievogel, General Manager M. J. Winns ; assistant, arrived here yesterday from the Laurel track in .Maryland to take charge of the details of the fall meeting pending Mr. Winns arrival tomorrow. Mr. Brievogel reports that August Belmonts Mission went wrong In training and will not be shipped here to run in the four-mile race. Everything Is in readiness at the Downs for the coming meeting, the painters and whitewashed having completed their work. The machines in the betting ring are all in place. Eugene Elrod announces that there will be .twenty-six machines in oeration at Churchill Downs throughout the meeting and on Wednesday there will he several extra machines for straight, place and show wagering, which will beset up for the benefit of aute-post speculators on the Kentucky Endurance Stakes. The regular eiiuip- ; ment will be made up of three of the 5.00 variety, one straight, one place and one show, three of thj 0.00 variety, one straight, one place and one show; seven of the .00 variety, three straight, two place and two show, eighteen of the .00 variety, seven straight, live place and six show. There will lie twenty-eight cashiers and thirty ticket sellers at the Downs this fall. , The new result board is finished and is in position opposite the center of the grandstand. The registration of the winning horses as well as what the winner pays straight, place and show will easily be .-ceil from any part of ihe grandstand. Many notables in turf and social circles will be ; in attendance for the Endurance Stakes. James Butler, who is heavily interested financially in three great race tracks, will come here from New York in his private car with his family. Price McKinney, Cleveland turfman and a heavy stockholder in the Jockey Chili Juarez track, will also he on hand to ; see ihe running of the great race. Frederick Johnson, owner of Cock o the Walk, left here yesterday for Lexington to take in the opening of the trots at that place. He will Teturn here on Wednesday for the Endurance Stakes and will be accompanied bv that noted trotting horse enthusiast, C. K. G. Billings, who is credited with having stated that he moans to take a subscription to the Kentuckv Endurance Stakes next season and will buy a horse of the hest class to carry his colors In the four-mile race. Mr. Johnson, while in Lexington, will endeavor to purchase several good yearlings to add to his stable, he having made no such purchases so far this season. His two horses, Cock o the Walk and Rav o Light, will be kept here during the meeting at Churchill Downs and trainer J. P. Mayberry will race the latter a time or two at the local course this fall. It develops that Cock o the Walk Is sullering with inllamination in the sheath of the tendon which, in a human being would be describe as neuritis. He probably will, at the close of the Churchill Downs meeting, be shipped to a farm near Lexington and allowed to run out during the coming winter. Trainer Mayberry does not think the Injury will develop Into anything serious enough to keep the brilliant three-year-old from racing next season. Trainer W. S. Trevey lias Informed Secretary Lyman II. Davis that if nothing happens to C. F. Buscheinoycrs noted gelding. Hawthorn, he will start him in the third race at the Downs next Wednesday, a five and a half furlongs dash, in which his weight will be 110 pounds. Trevey had 4 not intended starting Hawthorn so early, but the 7 urn of Hastings worked three-quarters In 1:14 a few davs ago and apparently was not in the least distressed. Ho believes that witli another short breeze, he will be ready to run a good race in a short affair like this next Wednesday. Eiieenc tucker, Georgetown turfman, is here for the Churchill Downs meeting and reports that lie and his breeding partner, Kluzie Stone, have decided to dispose of their, thirteen yearlings in the sale which will he held at Latonia this fall. They have some choice youngsters in their collection, including a colt by Voter out of a half-sister to the noted Iron Mask, a brother to Please Welles and a half-brother to thu Keutucky Derby winner of 190S, t , . ; j , J . j , , . J , , j , j . : , j , . 1 ! 1 , ; ; Stone Street. The latter youngster is by Toddington. Trainer John Walters has had Dr. C. Caun geld G. M. Ilendries two-year-olds, Tattler and Strath-eam. for which Mr. Hemlrle paid ,150 for as yearlings last season. Both will be turned out until next season. J. W. Young lias arrived from Montana with Auto Bun and Princess Janice. It is his first appearance in Kentucky siuce he raced Alma Boy several seasons ago. It was trainer Young that bought for Grcfcr and Bender the noted lilly, Floral Park, winner of the Douglas Park Inaugural Handicap this fall. Theodore Ahadies gelding, Tom King, which has been on the ailing list off and on during most of the last two years, is now training well for that turfman. He worked a mile at the Downs a day or so ago in a shade better than 1:44 and came out of the performance without showing, any signs .of lameness or soreness. Abadie does not expect to race Tom King befoe the Latonia meeting. Chilis time of 3:20 for two miles in winning the Louisville Cup not only reduced the previous track lecord at Douglas Park, but is the fastest two miles ever run in Kentucky. Previous to Clubs performance the track record at Douglas Park was 3:30. made by Bellevlew October 7. 100S.. The fastest previous time made in -Kentucky at this distance was on May 29. 1S77, when Ten Broeck ran two miles at Churchill Downs In 3:27V.;. against time. Tlie Churchill Downs record for this distance in a race is 3:29 and is to the credit of the filly Claudia. Until Clubs won thu Louisville Cup the Kentucky record for two miles in a racq yaj 3:2S made by Azo at Latonia in 1909. Ditfyo horses in the history of American raeing lave run so miles as fast as Clubs did on Saturday at Douglas Park, they being Everett, holder of the American record of 3:25 for this distance, and Fitz Herbert, which ran the distance in 3:25if,. Bradleys Idle Hour Farm have been transferred to Douglas Park, where they will he under the direct supervision of trainer John F. Schorr. Star Charter, which had been turned out for some time, also joined the Schorr stable and will be put In training. As a precaution against a recurrence of the Dousing Park incident of Saturday, when a gang of sharpers tried to cash bogus tickets on several of the winners, the Churchill Downs management will resort to a new style of ticket with a different design and control number for each race. No two races will have tickets of similar design during the ten days that the racing will be on. The trio apprehended at Douglas Park and held In bonds of ,000 each on a charge of forgery, are said to be members of the gang that put over a big Job at Woodbine during the last meeting. General Manager Hachmeister will make every effort to have theui prosecuted to the extent of the law.
