Racing at Laurel this afternoon was held under much pleasauter conditions than heretofore during the meeting and a tremendous gatheriug. almost equaling in point of numbers that of Saturday last, came over from Washington and Baltimore to witness the sport. The fields ruled larger than on any day since the meeting began, and stirring contests resulted. Thirty-six layers were In line and speculation was brisk. The feature race, a mile and seventy yards handicap, found Montresor an easy winner. lie was riddeu by J. McTaggart and had things pretty much his own way throughout the last half mile. The other contenders suddenly dropped back In making the turn into tlie homestretch and at the end they closed with belated rushes. August Belmonts Stromboli. one of the colts that August Belmont will send to France next year, smothered his field for speed hi the second race and won in a canter after being held under restraint most of the way. Stroniboli is evidently a high-class youngster. It is said he will be put to jumping ou the other side. His time of 1:07 rep resented a new track record for five and one-half furlongs. W. R. RIggs. secretary of the Maryland Jockey Club, was a visitor today.
