NOTES OF THE TURF IN FOREIGN LANDS. In consequence of the death of tho mother of Lord St. Davids, his- horses will be raced in the name and colors of Charles Waugh until the end of October. Night Hawk, the St, Leger. winner, is among . tho acceptances for the Cesarewiteh and, having in curred a ten-pounds penalty by his success, his weight is now 109 pounds. The King of Wurtemberg has taken subscriptions to Rock Sand for 1914 and the following two years, while the Duke of Portland and Col. C. Birkiu have taken subscriptions for next year. Until this year W. Hall Walker had not won the St. Leger. Ills colors had been twice carried first home in the One Thousand Guineas and once in the Oaks, so that classic honors were not new to him. Verney and Lance Chest have been scratched for all engagements this year. The last-named was among the entries for the Cesarewiteh and Cambridgeshire and also had an engagement In the Newbury Clip. A proposal has been made to hold a conference of representatives of racing clubs at Melbourne during Melbourne Cup week, for the purpose of considering certain suggested alterations to the Australian rules of raciug. White Magic, tho second in the St. Leger, lias accepted for the Cambridgeshire with 10! pounds, but has gone out of the Cesarewiteh. Seremond third in tho St. Leger, has also accepted for the Cambridgeshire with 99 pounds. Although only recently selected to succeed his dead sire Desmond in the stud, Lomonds list for 1914 is now full, and only a few nominations to liiin remain for 1915. Ho stands at the Fort Union Stud, Adare, County Limerick, Ireland. Not only did a rank outsider winn the St. Leger, but added to the puzzle by covering the distance in the record time of 3:03. The previous best was by Swynford, 3:04, while Prince Palatine occupied 3:00, and Tracery last year in 3:11. Some recent times have been very much faster than those recorded twenty or thirty years ago. Ormonde, for instance, took 3:21; Common, 3:14; Isinglass. 3:13; Persimmon, 3:20; Flying Fox, 3:15, and Sceptre, 3:12.
