HORSES HEADING FOR CHARLESTON. Charleston, S. C, November 3. The closing of Ihe Laurel meeting Friday found several prominent owners of big stables ready to ship direct to Charleston to await the opening of the winter meeting of the Charleston Fair and Racing Association December 1. Among the stables shipped here Was the pretentious racing establishment of J. L. Hollaud, whose string of thirty horses occupied two cars in .charge of trainer n. Marshall. This shipment includes such well-known horses as Donald Macdonald, Gainer, Dartwortli, Gordon, Garl, Triller, Briar Path and Trade Mark. R. F. Carman, who will race one of the strongest stables at Charleston tins winter, also shipped to Palmetto Parky two carloads of thoroughbreds, Surprising; G. M. Miller, Meridian and Water Lad being among the racers he sent here. From Benning came the stables of T. Cheek, G. A. Tacot, W. P. Fine. W. G. AVagnon. J. Wise and T. Cochran. A. W. Foulk, J. W. Burttschell and C. Reed shipped part of their stables. II. G. Iiedwell will ship here two carloads and W. P. Bureh one carload at the conclusion of the Pimlico meeting. Announcement is made that the entries to the stakes to be run during the meeting approximate 1,200, which far exceeds all former records for Palmetto Park. Among the horses nominated are some of the best racers in training. Any doubt as to adequate stabling facilities was set at Test by the announcement that lumber was ordered for the building of new stalls as soon at was seen that they will be in demand. With a large force of carpenters available, the erection of additional stabling accommodations will oiilv be a matter of a few days. The announcement of purses in the first book of conditions that will be issued shortly, will provide for one purse of 00, three purses of 00 and twO purses of 00 daily. The daily purse distribution from then on will be governed by conditions. If the patronage warrants it, the purses will be increased in valiie. Martin Nathanson, who will act as presiding judge and racing secretary, will be here tomorrow and will proceed to compile the program for the first seven days of racing. The riding material that will be seen in the saddle here will include J. McTaggart. the skilful lightweight who is under contract to Hugh Penny; J. Glass, Nathan, Buxton. Deronde, R. Waldron, Ri"iumire. Keogh, Obert, Goose. E. Martin and C. Burlinganie.- The last-named will do the riding for the stable of J. O. Talbott.
