OLD-TIME CHICAGO TURFMAN DIES. Anthony Licalzi, better kuowu to thousands in the palniv davs of Chicago racing as "Tony" Licalzi died at his residence on Sheridan Road Monday. He died a wealthy man, interested in various paying enterprises in Chicago and elsewhere. In the early nineties, he owned the fruit vending privileges cn the Chicago tracks and at New Orleans and. making money the year round, thriftily saved it and made wise investments as his means increased. In those days he owned and raced horses with a fair measure of success. The best be ever possessed was the extremely fast Ormie, but he owned, and from time to time won with Wallace, Forest Belle, Mitchell L.. Palmyra, Waif, Rita Woodruff and others. Ormie was an Ohio-bred horse bv Dudley Wali-O-Naisa, and was gifted with remarkable speed and an eccentric temperament. When on good terms with himself and able to ecure a clear course, Ormie would at times come through the homestretch at a rate of speed irresistible and amazing to view. But be instantly resented being touched from behind aud more than once lost races because of leing slapped on the rump bv liovs on other horses as he was passing them in one of his meteoric flights. That done to hiii he at Mice sulked and dropped out of the run-niii" Ormie was at once Licalzis pride because of his high-class sieed and his despair because of this peculiarity. Mr Liciilzis active connection with racing ceased a "number of vears back, more important business calling for his time. He was decidedly popular with patrons of racing and a man of pleasant ways. He was born at Genoa, Italy, oft years ago and tor over tbirtv vears had been connected with the fruit business in Chicago aud died credited with the ownership of fruit farms near Montrose, Col., and Riverside, Cal. He also, among other possessions, was part owner of the Willard and Wilson theaters in this city. Only last summer he took a trip of pleasure to Europe.
