FAR WESTERN OFFICIAL ON TRIP EAST. Phil Reilly, whoJs. connected in an oflicial capacity with racing in British Columbia and other parts of the far west, passed through Chicago yesterday on his way from Vancouver to Latonia, where he goes in the" Interest of the British Columbia Thoroughbred Association to look over the methods employed in conducting the pari-mutuel system of betting. The mutuels are the sole method of speculation on the British Columbia tracks, the management of which are constantly on the lookout for improvements to facilitate their operation. Mr. Reilly reports that the British Columbia meetings were attended bv prosperous results this season, as they have been ever since the mutuels were installed. Plans for next seasons racing at Vancouver have not yet been formulated. It is not improbable that in the near future a circuit will be arranged in the Canadian northwest that will embrace Winni-leg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria and other important points. Mr Reillv brings word that a meeting of two weeks duration probably will be arranged for Coeur dAlone to follow the Spokane Fair meeting in the fall of 1914. Before returning to the Pacific coast, lie will visit Lexington with the idea of looking over nnv thoroughbred stock that may be for sale, having been commissioned by several British Columbia breeders to pick up anything that appears to be bargain. The breeding of thoroughbreds in the northwest is a rapidly expanding industry. Z r II s 7 x i 1 " " " y e v, ;. il o r e ;, r g a a a e
