WONDERFULLY CONSISTENT OLD DONALD MACDONALD SCORES HIS TWENTY-FIRST VICTORY OF YEAR. Seven-Year-old Son of Sombrero and Berriedale Has an Easy Time in Winning St. Johns Hotel Selling Stakes at Palmetto Park. Charleston. S. C, December 10. J. L. Hollands consistent seven-year-old, Donald Maedonald, carried off the honors in the .St. Johns Hotel Selling Stakes, the feature of todays program at Ialmetto Park, in the easiest kind of fashion, with Colonel Ash-nieade second and Lrinee Ahmed third. The latter, as well as Elwah, represented II. G. Bedwell in the race. As n contest the race was farcical, the winner having sway throughout and being eased up to a canter in the last sixteenth. Real contention for the nurse should have come from Counterpart, but jockey Keogh handled that horse in amateurish fashion and got him repeatedly blocked during the running. With a clear course he would have lin-ished as good as second. It is barely possible that Keogh was not altogether at fault,, for Nathan, who rode Elwah, which did most of the interfering, repeatedly opened a trap for the Weber rider. Star Actress showed a sadden recovery of good form in the fifth race when she beat among others some that hr.d led her to the finish in preceding starts. This left a bad taste and caused much comment. Martin handled her this afternoon in wideawake fashion, hustled her away from the post in front and, except for a momentary spell that he gave her just before rounding into the stretch, she led throughout and won as her rider pleased. Pard-ner took second money and Joe Ieilold was third. Colonel Cook ran far below his good form in this race and brought up far in the rear. After the liuish J. W. Iledrick bid Star Actress up from an entered price of ,200 to ,300, at which figure she became his property. There was more betting activity in the ring this afternoon than at any previous period of the meetr ing. The layers also got a few breaks in their favor, but the big operators again suffered loss ou account of the extensive liberties they took with all the winners. r Ancoii was a Slight favorite "In the opener and made good impressively. Little En and Sherlock Holmes, the two best backed ones in the second race, linished lirst and eecoud. Sherlock Holmes was best, but bore out badly "in the stretch, which cost him the purse. Sir Marion unset an extensive coup -when he lauded in advanc? of Pluvious in the third and Chartler, another well-backed one. won the dosing dash as a result of the good handling he got. Secretary Isathauson announced weights this afternoon for the twenty-one eligibles to the Jasper Handicap, three-quarters of a mile, to be run Saturday.
