JUAREZ LAYERS HARD HIT BOOKMAKERS AT MEXICAN COURSE HAVE MOST UNPROFITABLE DAY OF MEETING. Favorites Account for Four Races James Butlers Yearlings Reach Mexican Track W. G. Yanke There in Role of Visitor. El Paso, Tex., December 10. An ordinary card, made up of selling races, was presented to patrons of the jockey Club Juarez today. Favorites won the first four purses and the layers received the worst drubbing tiiat they have experienced so far at this meeting. Barbara Lane and Superstition saved them from being completely swampeu. Orbed Lad, favorite of the sixth race, struck himself on his right foreleg with such severity that jockey Moore was forced to pull him up on the far turn. After he dismounted at the paddock, the horse left the track extremely lame. The yearlings of James Butler, New York turfman, arrived here safely from that point this morning. There were eleven head in the shipment. They came In charge of trainer R. C. Benson, who will turn them over to John Lowe to train. Mr. Benson Intends to remain here for about a week and then return to New York. The yearlings are the get of Disguise, Voter, Delhi and Ben Brush and are part ot the lot Mr. Butler purchased from the Keene estate. Bookmaker W. G. Yanke and jockey C Borel, who have been visiting in California for the past month, stopped over today en route to Charleston. Henry McDanlel returned from New York this morning, lie expects that Mrs. McDaniel, who has recovered from her recent illness, will be able to travel next week. Manager Winn and his associates are greatly encouraged by the big Sunday crowds that have patronized the sport at Juarez. Conditions here are now normal and. with no danger of war, visitors are expected in large numbers after the Christmas holidays. After January 1, it is expected that racing will take place each Monday. John Troy has quit booking, following heavy losses, but two or three new bookmakers have arrived and are expected to cut in shortly. The players have given the Jaycrs- a drubbing, as the result of the consistent running of the favorites. Roy Offutt is reported ,000 behind. While Frank Shannon, another big operator, has dropped ,500. "Izzy" Pam is ,500 loser, according to report. Recent work-outs over the Juarez track were as follows: Balgce Three-eighths In 3S.
