- WINNINGS OF BUSKIN AND HIS STABLEMATES : With a small stable, John Whalen achieved an enviable measure of success in the racing of 1913, his total of 5,900 being a highly satisfactory gain over his stable earnings of ,185 In 1912. This result was mainly due to the speed of his good Hamburg three-year-old. Buskin. This speedy gelding raced so effectively as to gain ninth place in the list of winning horses. Among his victories he won the Preakness Stakes at the Pimlico spring meeting, Hamilton Derby at Hamilton, Canadian Derby at Fort Erie and wound up by carrying off the honors of the Bowie Stakes of two miles at the Pimlico fall meeting. In this race the Kentucky Endurance Stakes winner, Pandorlna, was in the unplaced division. Whalens other good winner was the Hamburg filly. Honey Bee, a capital sprinter when at her best, but not to be relied upon at over three-quarters of a mile. The stable account for the year was: Horse. Col. and Sex. A. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d. Won.
