POOR DAY FOR FAVORITES JOE DEIBOLD IS ONLY FIRST CHOICE TO SCORE AT CHARLESTON. Held at Prohibitive Odds, He Wins Overnight Handicap in Impressive Fashion Over the Sands Takes Long Race. Charleston, S. C, December 20. The latter ran an unaccountably dull race and probably disliked the t In" going. Chuckles was an intended "good thing" in the lifth race, but the best he could do was to lake third money. The consistent Ancon got up in the last strides to beat Hye Straw. After the linish the winner was bid up 03 over an entered price of 10, but was retained. Another intended "good thing" went wrong in tin- closing race when Yorkshire Boy was beaten by Reno and Schaller.
