DARTWORTH LUCKY WINNER HOLLAND HORSE SCORES FLUKY VICTORY IN HANDICAP AT CHARLESTON. Brynlimah, Weakly Handled at Finish, Should Havo Been the Winner Big Crowd Out in Spite of Adverse Conditions. Charleston, S. C, January 3. Conditions for racing were worse at Palmetto Park today than 011 any previous day of the meeting, the weather being of the wintry variety and the track several inches deep in mud. Despite the adverse conditions, a goodly crowd was out and the sport was keen, live of the winners having to be driven to the limit to win by scant margins. Twelve layers were in line and were kept going at toy speed to handle the heavy volume of speculation. Only two favorites managed to win, Gagnant and Dartworth. the latter accounted for the feature race, a handicap at one mile, but his victory was a lucky one, Prynlimali being much the best under the conditions. Jockey .McTaggart gave Dryiilimah a weak finish and Dartworth was able to score by the margin of a head. A selling handicap at one mile and seventy yards went to Vereiia, a 15 to 1 chance, while Winning Witch, the favorite, ran unplaced. Gagnant accounted for the opening race, while Dally Waters, from the Pcdwell stable, took the second. Core opsis gained a hard earned victory in the third and Premier just managed to score in the lifth. Flying Yankee was the medium for an intended coup in tiie third race and was extensively backed by the K. F. Carman stable connections and the public as well, but he linished last, quitting almost to a walk in the linal part of the race after leading in the early running by a good margin. An intended coup on Gallant Hoy, backed from 30 to 1 to 10 to 1, tailed by a neck. Dallv Waters changed hands after her victory. .1. O. "Talbott securing her for 00 by the run-up process, which was .8200 over her entered price. Coreopsis was bid up from .:.K to ?005 by N. P.. Davis and was letained. Floral Park. Frank J.
