NOTES OF THE TURF. In France "tubed" horses are not allowed to compete in races. A. C. McCalTcrty has returned to Juarez from a holiday visit to his home lu St. Louis. Traquelle, the chamnioii two-year-old of this season in Australia, has so far won 0,1S in prize money. La Pa trie, which won the two-year-old race of Friday at Charleston in the colors of Raleigh Cols-Ion, is a sister to that speedy liliy. Theresa Gill. Manager M. J. Winn was highly gratified upon returning to Juarez to find a marked increase in attendance at the races. The Juarez meeting may now be said to lu? fully in its stride. At Canterbury, New calami, recently, a live-legged thoroughbred foal had one of the legs removed by a veterinary surgeon and lie quite expects the youngster to be callable of racing Inter on. Delara, described and sold in Australia as a gelding, was recently discovered to be entire, but lias since been gelded. Delara is by Lord Delaval Bengola, and when lie won the Farm Stakes at Warwick Farm in September last, figured in the race book as a gelding. He was similarly described when racing at Randwick in October. In Australia recently an Individual named P. Bourke. who endeavored to do a bit of bookmaking under two or three names at a local pony meeting, was sent to jail for a mouth on the charge of being a suspected person. He was first of all ordered out of the saddling paddock and later was found betting in the leger reserve with a different bag and name. The following from an Indian exchange should be read and digested by some prominent Australian owners, as it applies equally as well here as elsewhere: "A good horse always commands support, but those who back him when uutit are in a way robbed of their money. As suggested before more than once, the stewards should look to this and prevent the running of those palpably not in a condition to run reasonably near their real form." Sydney Referee. That Australian sport lovers are thoroughly law-abiding was clearly demonstrated at the recent Victorian Racing Chilis. Spring meeting, where not a single case of drunkenness came before t lie authorities during the currency of the fixture, which extended over four days. Particulars of offenses committed during the meeting were supplied to the Victorian Racing Clubs committee by the superintendent of police and these were three eases or carrying on the business or bookmaking without tht; approval of the club, one or Insulting behavior, another or larceny, and two of being suspected persons.
