ENGLISH ENTRIES IN AUTEUIL EVENTS. In the last issue of "Tlie Calendar" were published tlie entries for the two big jumping affairs at Atitouil in June, and as usual English owners ha;e patronised lioth races witli fair liberality, but whether they will find anything good enough to beat tlie Frenchmen remains to be swn. Sir Charles Assheton-Smith, of course, is a subscriber, having three in each race, Bernstein being supported in the Grand Steeplechase by Irish Mail and Maid Marian, and in the Hurdle Race by Lady Madcap and Red Damsel. Mr. F. Bibby has nominated Fork Hill for the one and Holy Smoke for the other, but Sir George Bullough patronises only the cross-country race, with Ilston and Mallymacad. Mr. .T. D. Cohu and Mr. S. B. Joel are- nominators, but their representatives are, I fancy. French horses, and whereas Malscadden ligures in both races, Mr. C. Bower Ismay has a second chance in the hurdle affair with Closheen. Rathlea is duplicated, and Mr. Nolan has entered in addition for the minor event Kuuck-na-Corriga, which by the way, is whispered as likely lo be heard of in connection with Lincolnshire Handicap. Sir Peter Walker takes the double chanee with Lord Ninian, and Colonel nail Walker is content with one nomination only, Orraachus, for the lUtrdle Race, in which will be found .Mr. George Edwardess Wanono. The speedy American-bred Castleton can do duty for Mr. Kennedy Jones, and another from tho land of Stars and Stripes is Mr. Winans Dalmatian. The entry of Oppliger suggests the possibility that the best may not yet have been seen of Oppliger. Irish bred, by General Symons out of the famous Aunt May: and Lord Rosebery can cut iu with the handsome little Wrack, which is being schooled for tlie business by Frank nartigan. but I am afraid lack of size will prevent the son of Robert lo Diable and Samphire from ever developing into a Prudhomme, which was a good horse on the flat and a top-sawyer over timber when Joseph Cannon had him in hand many years ago. Excelsior is also entered for the hurdle race. "Vigilant In London Sportsman.
