NOTES OF THE TURF. Col. W. E. Applegate has succeeded Izzy iTam as the controlling influence in the Juarez betting ring. Last season there were 111 odds-on choices that started in Austrian races. Of these. 51 won, and 22 of the successful ones were ridden by jockey G. Janek. The death of G. Lacy Crawford, who figured at ona time as an owner of the racing thoroughbred, took place at his home in St. Louis yesterday. He was 43 years of age and death resulted from a throat affection. Anytimes recent disappointing performances are attributed by trainer Mose Goldblatt to injuries sustained In a collision with another horse while at work. Goldblatt was not particularly disturbed when she was recently claimed out of a race at Juarez by S. A. Beckham.
