OUTRAM WINS THE LINCOLNSHIRE. In France the first important stake race of the flat racing season fell to an American owner when H. B. Dttrveas Durbar II. won The Prix de St. Cloud. In "the wav of something of a parallel, the first great stake race of the English Hat racing season fell to sin American horse last Wednesday when Outram won the Lincolnshire Handicap for the English owner Paul Xelke. This result was not expected, the horse starting at-the long price of 2.1 to 1, and being generally put down by the English turf writers as not being of sufliciently good class to win such a race as the Lincolnshire, lightly-weighted as he was. However, ho won easily by two lengths, with Cuthbert second and Short Grass third. The" latter is an Irish-bred horse belonging to Emil Hcrz, who was formerly well known in Chicago as part owner of the famous horse McChes-nev. Cuthbert finished first in last years Lincolnshire but was disqualified for fouling, and the race was given to the second horse, Bcrrilldon. The summary: P. Xelkes b. h, Outram, .3, by Delhi Gingham, fl! pounds, 25 to 1 1 F. Ii. Davis b, h, Cuthbert. 5. Iiy St. Aidan Meddlesome, 102 pounds, 8 to 1 2 E. Herz b. h. Short Grass, C, by Laveno Out-; burst, 100 pounds, 40 to 1 .1 Tiio other starters were Agbdoe, Berrilldpn, Blue- stone. Bonbon Rose. Brancepeth, Cigar, Eton Boy. .larnac II., Knuck-na-Corriga, Maiden Erlegh. Mediator. Pintadeau. Prevoyant. Puro, Borneo, Spanish Prince. Surge, Tuxedo and ITtimus. Outram was bred by the late James B. Keene and when a two-vear-old in 1!11 won for him in England the Rous Plate at Doncaster, and the New Nurserv Handicap at Newmarket, besides running third to White Star and Ilanders in the Moleconib Stakes at Goodwood. After the close of racing that year Mr. Keenes horses in England were sold at miction and Mr. Xelke bought Outram for .V.SOO. In 1012 he won the Brighton Higliweight Handicap of ?2.210 at Brighton, and A Handicap of ..S00 at Newmarket, besides being placed, in six other races. Last vear he won for Mr. Xelke the Great Cheshire Handicap of .S2.220 at Chester, Holiday Handicap of .1S." at Hurst Park, ami the Royal Handicap or ,;id0 at Sundown Park. As the Lincolnshire nets the winner of ,000 it can be seen that Outram proved a profitable purchase. Mr. Xelke is not at all bashful about betting and it is more than probable that he won many thousands over Outrams victory at Lincoln.
