GREAT BRITAIN TAKES CUP G. M. HENDRIE S GOOD STAYER ADDS ANOTHER TO HIS STRING OF VICTORIES. Wins Two Miles Contest with Which Douglas Parks Successful Meeting Is Brought to Brilliant Close. Louisville, Ky., October 3. Racing at Douglas Park terminated this afternoon with a record attendance. The speculation, too. was far above the total of auy former day this fall. This meeting was a brilliant one in every respect and exceeded the expectations of the management. Financially, it was vastly better than any former fall period and kept pace with the banner conditions shown at Lexington this fall, which augurs well for Cimrcbill Downs and Latonia, where meetings are still to be held. For a getaway card. Secretary Maginn provided seven races, of which the Louisville Cup, two miles, carrying a net value of ,305 and a haudr some silver cup, was the feature. A handicap at ond mile and seventy yards for older horses and another at five and a half furlongs for juveniles, served as secondary features. The principal race enabled local patrons of the sport to see Great Britain in action, and the Hendrie champion proved conclusively by his running that he ranks with the top notchers, for it was in impressive fashion that he disposed of his opposition. Disparity was second and Any Port beat Donerall, the only other starter, for third money. Betting upsets were again numerous. Great Britain being the only pronounced first choice to succeed. The failures of Ed Crump and Helen Barbee were severe blows to the followers of form. W. O. Parmer came over from Nashville to see Great Britain run in the cup race. Trainer Walters stated after the race that the horse came back to the stable a rifle sore, but he did not deem it serious. Jockey W. W. Taylor was lined 5 by the stewards for rough riding In the second race. Charles F. Price, who presided in the judges stand, will leave for Laurel" tomorrow to spend a few days there before the opening of the Churchill Downs meeting. Garrett D. Wilson, secretary of the Kentucky Association, stated this afternoon that the work of improvements of the Lexiugtou track would be started at onee. It is the intention to enlarge the betting ring to make room for several additional mutuel machines and also to add stabling room and overhaul the offices.
