j : RICH LIST OF STAKES OFFERED BY H. D. BROWN IN CONNECTION WITH HIS WINTER MEETING AT HAVANA A . - a. Baltimore, Md., October 13. H. D. Brown, after having spent several weeks in this country in the interest of the meeting which lie is to manage at Havana, Cuba, during the coming winter, has gone back to Cuba to rush to completion the new racing plant which he is building on modern lines at Marianao. the leading American suburb of Havana. Before leaving he tfcfinitely announced that the meeting at Oriental Park, which is the name he has selected for the new track, will begin January 7 and continue until .March 15, embracing sixty-eight racing days. The schedule calls for racing on Sundays, as well as other lays, in accordance with the custom in Latin countries. The stake list which Mr. Brown has prepared for the inaugural meeting at the new track, is the most valuable ever offered for a winter meeting in Xorth America and is counted niton to assure a racing season of great brilliancy and attract stables of importance whose owners had not heretofore planned a winter campaign Stakes carrying such values as 5,000, .0,000 and 5,000, as the Havana head-liners will, are none too plentiful on the American turf nowadays, it is pointed out, and in planning them. Mr. Brown had iu mind the establishment of racing at Havana on a scale that would draw patronage from all over the world. In recent years, Havana has rome to the front as a winter resort par excellence, especially for Americans of the wealthy class, and it is this class that will bo particularly catered to at the new track. These stakes are to close November 1G. Upon his return to this country early next month Mr. Brown will announce further details of the meeting. It is understood that his tentative list of officials includes Cv H. Pettingill, T. O. McDowell and W. P. Rnrch as stewards, James Milton as starter, and J. B. Campbell as racing secretary.
