LA.T0NIA PATRONAGE CUT WINTRY CONDITIONS AT KENTUCKY TRACK EXERT EFFECT ON ATTENDANCE. 4. Rain Falls While Card Is Being Decided and Last Two Races of Day Are Run in the Mud Re- i is suits in the Main Formful. ? t t Cincinnati, O., October 20. The sudden change l from sumnierlike to wintry weather, such as pre- t vailed this afternoon, was keenly felt here and re- a sulleU in a falling on" of the patronage at I-atonia. -Uain fell steadily after the running of the fourth 1 race and the last two races were run in the mud and tlie tinal dash in semi-darkness. Fairly inter- 1 esting sport attended the running of most of the races. Favorites and second choices made a clean i fcweep of the card. Tlio best race of the day. a sis furlong sprint haudicait tor a purse of 00, went to Sen. J. X. Camdens fast gelding. Bring- a hurst, which, after a sharp drive, outstayed tipsy I Love by a scant neck, with Orover Hughes third. The winner led throughout and showed rare sameness in the final drive. A coup f considerable proportions was success- 1 fully put over in the second race and profited a ! coterie of sharps handsomely. Jefferson Living- 1 stons Knglish-bred youngster, Royal II., was the 1 medium and he scored impressively, in decided contrast to a former start at Louisville. On that occasion Loftus took him back to last place immedl- 1 ately after the start and seemingly was content to let him gallop along at his leisure. Trainer Brandt was considerably put out after the race over Loftus action, lint accepted the riders explanation that he was forced to take the colt out of contention on account of interference at th start. Loftus made no mistakes today, kept him clear of trouble and the colt won in a canter. The Youngster is a striking looking individual and has been tried highly since his arrival in this country. P. T. Chiui:, who iKiught him in England for Jefferson Livingstons account, is said to have profited e, tensive! v by the colts victory today. The mile dash for two-year-olds resulted in a victory for the frequent disappointing Leo Hay. This colt has on several occasions shown remarkable trials, lint has failed dismally. He showed a high-class performance today by coming from far, back in the stretch to dispose of McAdoo. which seemed a certain winner a furlong, out. Because AV. J. Young trains Leo Ray, a. well as Tory Maid, which started in the race, and J. E. Madden having a con-. f iiigeiiT fntercTst In Sandstone and owning Tory Maid, the trio were grouped in the betting, at Hoenir was it supposed "good thing" in the fifth race, hut after flattering his backers to the last furlong, he was passed by Prince Hermis and Lu-ther, and the former won by a head. Luther was ; lAst in the race, but suffered by being in a tangle : lit the start. In the closing dash Bonanza showed the way to Bonne Chance for the entire trip. There were many arrivals today of horsemen from easlern points who came to be hero for the yearling sales which began today and will continue tomorrow. Among the new comers were Barney Schreiber, AV. II. Karrick. E. McBride and I. Ilig-gins. The latter came from Montreal and was a , bidder on the Hastings Crimea colt, the star of the . eale. O. A. Blanchi Baggie Smith announced today that he would add the yearling half-brother to Emerson Cochran to the sale tomorrow, which will begin 1 at 10:30 sharp. Miss Declare and ltoyal II.. the successful two-horso combination, yielded 0.75 for . Bring-hurst. Prince Hermis and Bouauza, the three-horse ! paid 0.15. K. C. Hopper and Carroll B. Held were among tin now visitors at the track today. The stewards today concluded their investigation 1 in the loose-Hank OBay case and handed down the . following ruling: "The original testimony in connection - witli the suspicious circumstances preceding and immediately following the Hank OBay race at t Churchill Downs not being sufficiently confirmed or substantiated by the subsequent investigation by the stewards, the tcnqiorary suspension of jockey It.
