PROGRESS AT ORIENTAL PARK. Havana, Cuba. October 2G. AAork is being rushed along by tlie Cuba-American Jockey Club on its new course at Marianao and a large force of men are busy grading about the grounds where the stables will lie erected. The track proper at Oriental Park was completed a couple of weeks ago and most of the framework for the spacious steel grandstand is already in position. The track has been- built in a saucer shaped valley and the grandstand is elevated twenty feet above the track. Tills insures a perfect view of the entire course. The soil of the new track is a black loam. The plans call for a model plant and the better class in Cuba will be catered to. General Manager Browns reputation of doing nothing by halves will be lived up to and Oriental Park will" lie vastly superior to City Park, New Orleans; Moncrief Park, Jacksonville: or Laurel Park in Maryland, all three of which were constructed by him. Mariauao is a suburb of Havana and is about a fifteen minute car ride from the city. The traci occupies a picturesque location surrounded by hills. A liberal policy will be pursued by the management In regard to the wants of the horsemen. The feed store and kitchen privileges have been eliminated, which means thai horsemen can iwiard their help and purchase their feed whore they choose. The proprietors of several kitchens have already announced their intention of coming over to set up either on tlie track or adjacent to tlie course. Havana is easy of access. It is only five hours from Key West and those who prefer shipping that way can load their horses at any point in the United States and unload them at Oriental Park. Two large boats have been built by the East Coast railroad to ferry trains from Key AVest across to Cuba. The officials will probably be made up as follows: Stewards. T. C. McDowell. AV. P. Burch and C. EL Pettingill. Judges, P. A. Brady and M. Nathanson. Clerk of the Scales. J. B. Campbell. Starter, James Milton. Auditor, Frank Bruen.
