The openiug of ollices by the Business Mens Racing Association, Inc.. in rooms 413-14 Macheca building, marked another step toward the completion of arrangements for conducting the forty-day winter meeting which opens Jan. 1 at the Fair Grounds track. There is said to be no longer a particle of doubt in regard to the revival of racing here. Judge Joseph A. Murphy has been wiring encouraging reports of his success in interesting horsemen in the local race meeting. Gallaher Bros.. F. J. Pons, J. V. Shipp. P. J. Millett, AV. AV. Dar-den. F. Gering, Jr., V,. E. Phillips. F. Staton, vV. Walker, X. B. Davis. J. Hogan. Capt. J. T. Williams. G. AV. J. Bissell. .. Cuda. L. Trotte. Charles Hodges, J. F. Daniels and AV. Scully are among the latest additions to the list of owners who have signified an intention of shipping here. Joseph A. Murphy before leaving Latonia, where he spent several days in the Interest of Xew Orleans racing, expressed himself as delighted with the results of his trip in a statement given for publication as follows: "I have found that Xew Orleans still has a strong hold on the affections of the horsemen and we will have all the horses we want. In fact I do not want too many. AAith fewer horses, everybody will fare well. I can remember when I was at City Park one year we could get as many as 100 entries to a race. As a result we had to draw down to fifteen and it was hard sledding for the horsemen. I was glad to get Jack Campbell to act as clerk of the scales and associate judge. Xew Orleans is his home and he has many friends there. AVith Joseph McLennan a- racing secretary and associate judge, A. B. Bade as starter, and myself presiding, we will have an oHicial staff that will team together well. "A number of horsemen will go direct to Xew Orleans from Kentucky, but the bulk of our horses will come from Charleston. Some that are going to Juarez will come back and race awhile with us. J. AV. Fuller .has promised me to send some of his and P. M. Clvill also will. John AV. Schorr will winter must of his stable in Kentucky, but will send several to Xew Orleans in Louis Taubers care. Gallaher Bros, will also send two or three. J. 0. Milam is another who will send some horses direct from Lexington. E. AV. Moore will ship to AValter Parmers farm in Nashville, Tenn., and go to Xew Orleans later with ten horses. AA A Harden is another who will do the same thing. The purses at the Crescent City will be four of 00 and two of 00 daily, with a two-year-old race each day. This purse fund will be financed before the gates open, and the racing will positively be completed as scheduled. AVith racing, lwxing and the Mardi Gras, the Crescent City will be a lively place for forty days this winter."
