MCCAHEY IN GOOD FORM FITZSIMMONS JOCKEY DISPLAYS EXCELLENT HORSEMANSHIP AT HAVRE DE GRACE. Beys Skill in Saddle Enables His Employers Head-mast to Win Camden Selling Stakes His Riding Also a Factor in Montresors Victory. Baltimore, Md., November IS. Jockey Joe Mc-Cahey was the star performer at Havre do Grace this afternoon. It was due to his excellent riding that James FItzsimmons Headmast won the Camden Selling Stakes, the feature of a good card. Tho finish was an exciting one, with Headmast just getting home a head In advance of Boxer, with Sarsenet- only a nose away third. Dr. Larrick was the-pacemaker to the stretch, where he gave up. Then Sarsenet and Headmast booked up iu a duel to the" finish. McCahey outrode Schuttinger and disposed of Sarsenet. But Boxer, coining up on the rail, closed with a belated rush and was catching the winner with every stride. Headmast just lasted to get the decision. In the fourth, a handicap at one mile and seventy yards, McCahey rode another good race on Moutresor. He got Montresor off. flying and rated him in front to the stretch. Then he let him down and Mr. Wilsons horse successfully withstood the challenges of Waterbass and Paintbrush. The latter came fast in the last furlong, but could not overtake the winner. A big band of maiden two-year-olds, seventeen in number, went to the post iu the fifth race, with Saturnus regarded as a "good thing." Saturnus did not get anything, however, and was never a contender. Pennyrock, beaten a neck last Saturday when quoted at 100 to 1, dashed Into the lead right after the start and held his company safe all the way, while Bab came out of the bunch to take second place from Duke of Dunbar. Several offers have been made to J. G. Wagnoa for the contract lie holds on the apprentice F. Coleman, and It may be that the paiiers will be transferred in the next few days. Coleman is regarded as one of the best apprentices in the saddle just now. II. Homan, who acts as clerk of the scales and associate judge at Havre de Grace, wns taken ill last night :and was unable to attend 16 his duties this afternoon. C. Randolph, wns responsible for Herolds change of plans. Blue Thistle was bid up 00 over his entered price after he won the opening race. The bidding was done by a stranger. Mortimer Mahoney was at Havre dc Grace thin afternoon lining up the bookmakers for the meeting at Charleston. The ring at Charleston will be an open one and several layers made known their intention of going there.
