RECORD BREAKING FIELDS IN AUSTRALIA. It is not so many years ago that eighty-three runners for the half-dozen races comprising the program would have been considered verv satisfactory at Kensington, but since then unregistered racing has made such marked progress in Sydney that on Wednesday last there were no less than eighty-three starters for the Kensington Spring Cup. This. I should fancy, constituted a worlds record, in respect of numbers, for a race. It is scarcely necessary to add that the eighty-three did not all start together, five divisions and a final being necessary. The added money for the race was ,925. The other events, some of which also had to be decided in divisions, attracted 138 startlers, so that for the six races there were 221 competitors. Tho attendance was tremendous, arid some of the old-timers could not help picturing the difference in that respect between Wednesday last and the clubs opening meeting In June. 1S93. On that occasion the prize-moiie" for the afternoon was ,250, and it was reckoned .quite- a liberal urogram, while last week the club gave ,075. Pilot in Sydney Referee.
